An Elevated Point of View

These notes from Paul Tothill are based a version of his message preached at Gateway Church on 2/6/19.

By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible – Hebrews 11:3.

The word of God used here is the Greek word rhema which means uttered or freshly spoken. It is used to say the freshly spoken or revealed word of God. As God spoke through His son His spirit empowered words carried authority and power to bring things into order - to bring them into being.

For the sake of this faith reality and the vision of what God always intended for the church to be it is important to recap from last week and to bring some understanding how we are to live by an elevated perspective- a heavenly or revelation of the Kingdom realm and God’s present word into every area of our life. Every revelation has a purpose and a destination to accomplish God’s plans and purposes.

Last week I spoke about the importance of developing the spiritual discipline of prayer and in particular praying in the Spirit that activates us into the spirit of revelation knowledge. I spoke about how powerful prayer is in the spiritual or unseen realm to shift things in the natural realm.

Revelation knowledge comes from the Holy Spirit. It does not come from our carnal mind or our fallen pattern of thinking. Most often revelation from the Holy Spirit will challenge our fallen thinking to bring us into a greater understanding and knowledge of God and the mysteries of His Kingdom, the ways of the God, power of His words , promises and plans towards us. As I explained last week and it is worth repeating, that the fallen mind or the flesh is at odds with the things of the Spirit. None the less we must choose spiritual realities and yielding to the Holy Spirit over the flesh.

As you yield freely and fully to the dynamic life and power of the Holy Spirit, you will abandon the cravings of your self-life. For your self-life (the flesh) craves things that offend the Holy Spirit and hinder him from living free within you! And the Holy Spirit’s intense cravings hinder your old self life from dominating you! So then, the two incompatible and conflicting forces within you are your self-life of the flesh and the new creation life of the Spirit.

Those who are motivated by the flesh only pursue what benefits themselves. But those who live by the impulses of the Holy Spirit are motivated to pursue spiritual realities. For the mind-set of the flesh is death, but the mind-set controlled by the Spirit finds life and peace. In fact, the mind set focused on the flesh fights God’s plan and refuses to submit to his direction, because it cannot!

Praying in the Spirit is not only our act of spiritual warfare- as I said last week, it is like an atomic bomb in the unseen realm, it is also part of the process of activating the revelatory realm of God and the spirit of revelation.

The Scriptures should be our primary source of God’s eternal truth and reality. However, the Scriptures should be read prayerfully and patiently asking the Holy Spirit to reveal the meaning and application of God’s words to our life. They reveal both God and His ways. The Holy Spirit will show us unseen realities, or heavenly realities. His truths that act above or supersede the lower laws and systems of a fallen world. To that we should also be praying in tongues or in the Spirit.

Praying in tongues utters deep mysteries that our intellect cannot understand. At times it is the deep groaning of our heart calling out to the deep things of God. It is a valuable part of the transformation of our heart and the renewing of our mind to receive the revelation of God and His plans and purposes.

And in a similar way, the Holy Spirit takes hold of us in our human frailty to empower us in our weakness. For example, at times we don’t even know how to pray, or know the best things to ask for. But the Holy Spirit rises up within us to super-intercede on our behalf, pleading to God with emotional sighs too deep for words. God the searcher of our heart, knows fully our longings, yet he also understands the desires of the Spirit because the Holy Spirit passionately pleads before God for us, his holy ones, in perfect harmony with God’s plan and our destiny.

I also spoke to you about the ways of God. This is important, because we are to keep step with the Holy Spirit as He leads us and guides us in all truth so we can establish the things He is showing us through our loving obedience to Christ. Remember the power of the Holy Spirit overrides or is above as a higher authority and law than the natural realm. Everything starts in the unseen realm, the higher realm and is brought into being in the natural realm, a lower realm.

An elevated point of view by Paul Tothill

Lord, you know everything there is to know about me. You perceive every movement of my heart and soul, and you understand my every thought before it even enters my mind. You are so intimately aware of me, Lord. You read my heart like an open book and you know all the words I’m about to speak before I even start a sentence!

You know every step I will take before my journey begins. You’ve gone into my future to prepare the way, and in kindness you follow behind me to spare me from the harm of my past. With your hand of love upon my life, you impart blessing to me. This is too wonderful, deep, and incomprehensible! Your understanding of me brings me wonder and strength …

Our life reality as a believer is now found in the unseen realm of the Kingdom of heaven and who we are before the Father. Paul tells this to the church over and again. He has written out every thought towards us that brings us into our destiny, and His plans and purposes for our lives that we may flourish in this fallen world and bring forward His Kingdom realm into and around our lives. This is His perfect will for us. His will for us causes us to be co-labourers with Him in His purposes on earth.

Remember that God is not a donkey farmer- He does not drive us. He is a shepherd and He leads us to a place of peace and more than enough and opens pathways to God’s pleasure to bring honour to His name. (Psalm 23). We are led by the Holy Spirit into all of God’s eternal truths and mysteries. This is what yielding to and choosing to obey the revelation of God’s word leads us into.

This is a shift of thinking that cannot be achieved apart from the Holy Spirit, prayer and understanding the Scriptures in context and by revelation. God is constantly revealing Himself and His ways through His teaching- His commands, and His covenants.

In the Old Testament He is dealing with a people who have embraced an exiled and fallen understanding of who He is that is more in tune with the gods and world-systems around them than with God and who He really is and His ways. This can also be true for us in the New Covenant if we choose to live by the flesh.

Man’s ways are not God’s ways. However in Eden before the fall mankind had a heightened understanding of God, His Kingdom realm, His government including the angels and the ability to respond to His words in innocence to establish His dominion as the extension of Eden into the darkness and disorder of the world.

Man’s fallen thinking and disconnection to the wisdom of God is the natural consequence of man’s removal from Eden. This is the foundation to what Paul calls the flesh. The good news is in Christ we are restored through the power of the Holy Spirit into not just a new creation but the ability to see and hear and understand through revelation knowledge and understanding that the Holy Spirit brings us the mysteries of the Kingdom that we have now been given and to bring forward. God wants to reveal these things to us. We have the ability to live in higher laws and spiritual realities.

We are called to live the future Kingdom into the present overcoming the impediments of the spirit of this age and evil spirits that afflict, oppress, destroy, attack, do battle and cause destruction on the earth, take no food but hunger and thirst, cause trouble and cause offence and all kinds of evil and our old fallen thinking.

That is why Jesus rewards us as overcomers and calls us more than conquerors in Him. We cannot be complacent about this. That is why Paul tells us to be sober minded and alert to what is really going on. We need to be very aware of what we are giving ourselves to and empowering in our life. We are either working with God and moving into our destiny- what God has prepared for us to flourish or against advancing His Kingdom and His plans and destiny He has for us.

All of this is part of learning to walk by the Spirit and live fully yielded to the Spirit on a constant basis as a life style.

There has always been a conflict between humanity’s fallen intellect and understanding and how things really are from God’s elevated point of view. God’s view is the correct view. Spiritual realities or revelation of God’s present word operate above and are superior to our present fallen world and its laws. It is complete and perfect and how things really are and explains how the spiritual unseen realms and the power of His word shapes everything. In fact God’s word in our mouth is powerful too.

The writer of Hebrews tells us the risen Jesus “holds the universe (cosmos- both seen and unseen, all times and all ages) and expands it by the mighty power of his spoken word.” Hebrews 1:3

The power of God’s word is that if we speak it out towards those things that oppose us, the mountain of opposition towards God’s purposes and His will for your life, if you have God’s faith and believe the words you are speaking are able to accomplish the very thing God says they will and believe it is done, it will be done for you. The caveat is that you are not walking in unforgiveness. We always carry the responsibility in our freedom and self-government to keep our hearts pure and uncluttered free from bitterness, resentment and offence especially when we pray.

When you are living yielded and surrendered to the Holy Spirit, with a pure heart, God’s present word in your mouth is as powerful as if it were in God’s mouth.

This is a spiritual law that God causes us to participate in through our union with Christ by faith. It has the power to remove things and expand things. If God is going before you, He wants to reveal things to you so you may step into them and declare them both concerning your life and to dissolve mountains and obstacles that stand in your way. In this sense we co-labour with God into our destiny that He leads us into. This is the power of moving by faith, or as some would say, “Mountain moving faith” and living from God’s elevated point of view, or as Jesus said, “every present word that proceeds from my Father’s mouth”.

That is even more applicable today than ever before. Through the prophets God spoke forward His heart and His words for them to have faith in Him and faith in their covenant with Him. He told them He wanted to bless them. He wanted them to be the head not the tail, above and not beneath the systems of the nations and the spirit and curse of the fallen world.

His promises gave them and us the opportunity to live above the limitations and constraints of the fallen world system and the curse of the land and into His promises that revealed His superior unseen government and covenants over the fallen and cursed world and its systems . We live under a superior covenant in Christ and Jesus reveals many things to us through His teaching. So many things remain eternally true. We can still have unrighteous thoughts. And unrighteous thought is anything that is constructed by the fallen flesh thinking and does not accord with God’s eternal truth and wisdom as revealed in Jesus Christ and by the Holy Spirit.

Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth so are my ways higher than you ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

Now this is God speaking to Israel through the Prophet Isaiah. In those days the people of God did not have the Spirit of God dwelling in them. Selected people has an anointing and the Spirit would come upon them. They did not have a born again experience because Jesus had not yet come and had not be given to us as a life giving Spirit through His resurrection. Through the Prophet Jeremiah God made a promise that everyone would be able to hear His voice and be taught by the Holy Spirit. Through Jesus we are in this New Covenant.

"For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put the law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbour and each his brother, saying “know the Lord” for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity and I will remember their sin no more.”

Now what is hard for people to grasp, is that in our born again humanity, not our fallen humanity, we internally carry God’s divine nature. We are first a ruling class of spirit that has a soul and is housed in a physical body to be sons, kings and priests on earth commissioned to bring forward God’s dominion rule and reign. I am not talking “dominionism”, but Commission.

On that basis our words matter- a lot. If everything is held together by the power of the words of Jesus and the word has the power to tear down, destroy, establish, create and expand things that manifest in the natural, then we are creating our future and what is established or not in our lives by the power of our words. We are literally framing up our life through the words we speak and the thoughts we rehearse.

Kevin Zadai’s revelation on this is simple and profound:

Jesus is saying: Yield to me and begin speaking out and prophesying to your world.” You can bring correction to your circumstances as you yield and express truth found in God’s word. Speak it out, and you will see correction come. Everything in all creation was made by His words, is sustained by His words and responds to His words.

PSALM 103:20

So bless the Lord, all you messengers of power, for you are his mighty heroes who listen intently to the voice of his word to do it.

God promises to perform His word, not our word that is not His word. God is not obligated to fulfil our word that does not line up with His word, but His word in our mouth empowered by the Holy Spirit and the anointing He has given us. We are to speak into situations and frame situations through speaking forward God’s present word.

One of the first things Jesus spoke to Kevin Zadai about were idle words. Words we speak that are not employed in advancing His Kingdom and the purpose He created us for are roadblocks for us and His purposes. Idle words speak against what God wants to do. They do not advance and shape or frame up our world so His will can be established in our lives and the lives of others. Kevin Zadai describes it this way:

The intent of you words has to match their destination, or God considers them idle or illegal. This is the way words work in the spirit realm. This is what Jesus told me in this vision and it is what He wants all His children to understand.

It means our words have to match God’s words and His purposes and intention. Then if a spiritual mountain is in the way you will be able to remove it. Remember God has gone ahead of you and he wants you to speak into your future so it can be established by agreement with Him. Our words may we be keeping us out of what God is trying to bring us into.

The old order of trying to hear God and understand God from our fallen nature is finished in Jesus Christ.

Our focus and our understanding of truth does not come from the fallen world system or even an old religious system. It is now based as Paul points out so clearly on our yieldedness to the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of truth who reveals all things to us. He takes that which belongs to Jesus and makes it known to us. He also reminds us of what Jesus taught His disciples so we may continue the work of establishing the Kingdom of Heaven on earth as it already is in Heaven.

Even on the issue of money and provision we are to seek first the Kingdom realm of God. The Kingdom realm of God means the ways of God. The order and the ways of the Kingdom. If you follow the ways of God He is faithful to meet every need with overflowing abundance. On every issue of life we are to live from God’s elevated view of reality. When we do we cause His reality to break into our circumstances because His ways are above the world’s ways. His ways cause us to live above the curse of the land and the sweat of the brow.

What many people and believers forget about is that we live in a fallen world and fallen world systems that affect every aspect of our life. So God through His eternal words shows us His ways, the ways of the Kingdom and His thoughts, that are higher than our thoughts, meaning they come from the origin of all truth and reality. Led and empowered by the indwelling Holy Spirit, God’s words towards us need to become the reality we live from by faith. Trusting in its reality before and above the fallen circumstances of the world we are living in. This relates to every area of our life.

This is why Paul teaches the church through his letter to the Colossians ultimately to live from focusing on things above- God’s ways and His eternal truths through His word and Spirit- living from an elevated view, living above the fallen world systems.

Christ’s resurrection is your resurrection too. This is why we are to yearn for all that is above, for that’s where Christ sits enthroned at the place of all power, honour and authority. Yes, feast on all the treasures of the heavenly realm and fill your thoughts with heavenly realities, and not with the distractions of the natural realm. Your crucifixion with Christ has severed the tie to this life, and now your true life is hidden away in God in Christ. And as Christ himself is seen for who he really is, who you really are will also be revealed for you are now one with him in his glory!

We do not need to live in fear, but instead from a place of peace, faith in God’s faithfulness and God’s ability to perform His word. Remember that every promise is already yes in Christ. We only ever sow into that promise by faith to cause the increase to break forward into our situation. We take His words and His promises in Christ and all the blessings in the heavenly realms and do warfare with them by having them manifest in and around our life displacing disorder and spiritual darkness. Every promise and blessing carries a governmental reality in and through our lives into the world.

That is why we are in the world so God can establish His purposes through our destiny that He has written for each of us and as a people. We live from who we are before the Father into the world, whilst in the world.

God wants to give us revelation. God wants us to trust in His words as revealed in and through His Son. Jesus taught from the Scriptures so as to rightly apply God’s word to His life and the lives of His disciples who like Jesus would live empowered by the Holy Spirit to establish a Spirit people, a legislating community, an ekklesia whose words and prayers would shift spiritual authorities atmospheres and realities to cause the promises of God to manifest on earth destroying the works of darkness over our lives and cities and nations.
